Answers and guides for DirDeck. This page keeps evolving with each Mac App Store release.

System requirements

DirDeck requires macOS 15 or later.

How do I grant DirDeck access to my folders?

The App Store edition gains access only after you choose and confirm a folder in the macOS file picker. That choice stays on your Mac. Manage access anytime under System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders; once removed, DirDeck no longer accesses that folder.

How do tabs, panes and bookmarks work?

Open new tabs with Command-T, just like a browser. Pick one of 12 one-to-four-pane layouts from the toolbar. Every pane remembers its path, browsing history, selected items, view and search. Any file or folder can be bookmarked, organized into multiple levels and rearranged by drag.

What can Super Preview open?

Select a folder to browse what is inside. Open a ZIP, TAR, 7z or RAR archive layer by layer, then choose a document, spreadsheet, local webpage, Markdown file, image or media file to preview. DirDeck prepares only the file you choose instead of extracting the whole archive first.

Why can’t some files be previewed?

Encrypted or damaged archives cannot be previewed. DirDeck also does not force-open content that is too deeply nested, contains too many files, is too large or takes too long to read. Some formats use Quick Look built into macOS, so availability depends on your macOS version and installed extensions.

What is File Transit?

File Transit is a temporary holding area available from every DirDeck window. It accepts files, folders, text, images and links. Drop items onto File Transit or an enabled window edge, then preview, lock, copy, drag out, restore or export them later.

Does DD Search scan my whole disk?

No. It searches only folders you have allowed DirDeck to access, plus bookmarks, open tabs and recent locations. When the cursor is not in a text field, press D twice to open it. The shortcut works only inside DirDeck.

How do the trial and purchase work?

DirDeck is a free download with a 7-day full-feature trial. The trial itself never renews or charges automatically. When it ends, choose an auto-renewing annual subscription or one-time Lifetime Access. The annual price shown by Apple is US$4.00 in the United States and RMB 29 in mainland China. Apple handles every transaction, and Restore Purchases is available in the app at any time.

Does DirDeck upload my files?

No. Filenames, paths, previews and file processing stay on your Mac. DirDeck has no accounts, ads, analytics or cloud sync. See the Privacy Policy for details.
